My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Stars

Quotes to Remember:

  • “Maybe it's not the first kisses that are supposed to be special. Maybe it's the last ones.”

  • “And I want us to find our own thing or maybe find out that our own thing is everything, because I feel like if I have him, even the stupid stuff would matter”

  • “But the truth is, love is as much fate as it is planning, as much a beauty as it is a disaster.”

  • “It was a delicious feeling, falling in love. I'd had so many luxuries in my life, and I thought I'd had a taste of this before, but I realized now it was merely a cheap imitation of something not meant to be imitated in the first place.”

  • “You have to do whatever it takes to be with the person you love.”

  • “Break the stupid rule, Eadlyn. Marry the man you love. If he’s good enough for you to approve of, then I certainly do. And if the people don’t, that can be their problem.”

My Review:

So let's just say that I wasn't expecting it to end in the way that it did. I still love Eadlyn though and I really like how she handled herself and there was a lot going against her in this book. They character development from the start of The Heir and not wanting anything to do with the selection to The Crown and being committed to finding someone is amazing.

She is committed to her country and her family above all else but she is able to also put her own needs as a priority and while she comes off as spoiled at first, she is anything but. I love her. I just don't love the ending of this book. It wasn't what I was expecting and it wasn't necessarily what I wanted.

I am going to be honest, I wanted her to end up with Kile. He was really who I thought she was going to pick. Even as she was continually getting closer to Eikko (Erik) I really thought it was going to be Kile. I did think that it was a little unfair for him to have to leave architecture but they could have figured something out and he was more than willing.

I like Eikko. I don't love him but I did see it coming and was a little satisfied with myself when I could say "I KNEW IT!" but I didn't like it. But I am glad that she is happy and didn't end up with that jerk Marid. He deserved to get thrown into a dungeon and never let out.

With Marid out there and trying to take over, well, everything I think she made a good decision to speed everything up and it was a good decision for the country for her to make it a constitutional monarchy.

I also realized I never talked about Josie who I absolutely adore. Now. I hated her before but once she learned that being a princess isn't all tiaras and cute boys, she really became a supportive character and I really liked her. I also have a solid feeling her and Kaden will end up together and I ship it.

All in all, I really liked this book and it only got docked a star because I wasn't a fan of her choices.

Publisher's Description:

The Crown by Kiera Cass (The Selection: Book 5)

When Eadlyn became the first princess of Illéa to hold her own Selection, she didn’t think she would fall in love with any of her thirty-five suitors. She spent the first few weeks of the competition counting down the days until she could send them all home. But as events at the palace force Eadlyn even further into the spotlight, she realizes that she might not be content remaining alone.

Eadlyn still isn’t sure she’ll find the fairytale ending her parents did twenty years ago. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and soon Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more impossible—and more important—than she ever imagined.
