Quotes to Remember:

  • “Break my heart. Break it a thousand times if you like. It was only ever yours to break anyway.”

  • “The best people all have some kind of scar.”

  • “Bravery hides in amazing places.”

  • “Leave it to you to find beauty in something others would say ruins a day.”

  • “Mistakes mean it’s real.”

  • “I want everything with you, America. I want the holidays and the birthdays, the busy season and lazy weekends. I want peanut butter fingertips on my desk. I want inside jokes and fights and everything. I want a life with you.”

  • “In those seconds, I was mourning everything I'd lost. How I'd never get to see you walk down an aisle toward me, how I'd never get to see your face in our children, how I'd never get to see streaks of silver in your hair. But, at the same time, I couldn't be bothered. If me dying meant you living, how could that be anything but good?”

  • “I love you beyond paint, beyond melodies, beyond words. And I hope you will always feel that, even when I'm not around to tell you so.”

My Review:

Okay so a lot happened in this book, but I loved it. Obviously this series is so much more than just a love story. It also deals with political injustice and really shows some bigger issues. Of course the ending of the last book really left some big things for America and Maxon to deal with and it all comes to play in this book. I was crying. I was laughing. I love this book. I love America. I love Maxon.

Okay can we first talk about her dad. I cried. I cried a lot. Especially when I read the letter that he wrote to her. She was so close to her dad and he was everything to her. I am getting emotional just writing about America and her dad. I do think that it was very important for the story that he died though because it allowed her to discover new things about the rebels and her family ties to them But boy was I emotionally distraught.

I also think that she needed to tell Maxon much much sooner about Aspen. I never liked that she was involved with him anyway but I really disliked that she didn't tell Maxon. She had so many opportunities and I knew it would mess things up in the long run. Secrets always do in these books. I did not know, however, how epic the ending was going to be.

Celeste. I hated her. Then I loved her. Then she died. There's no more to say and I am very upset about it.

I think that's all I have to say but it was a very good book and I loved that it became about more than a love story and I love the character development. And there is nothing like defying death to make you realize that you are about to marry the wrong person.
