Updated: Dec 21, 2020

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Stars

Quotes to Remember:

  • “Reading took me away from myself, so I tried to be reading all the time.”

  • “Being a woman with a contrary opinion does not render me hysterical.”

  • “I kept thinking of a film I’d seen late at night, years ago, where a boy and girl wandered a city all night long, talking and falling a little bit in love. They’d been in Europe. They’d agreed to meet again the next year if they still felt the same about each other.”

  • “Just because you know something about yourself doesn’t mean you should be forgiven for it.”

  • “There was a kind of relief in it, the giving up.”

  • “I was somebody who only wanted to see the world through paintings, never a photograph.”

My Review:

Wow. Just wow. I don't know where to begin. I absolutely loved this book. It's no secret if you have read my reviews for the other books in the series that I absolutely loved the first book and was pretty disappointed with the second one. This one, however, completely made up for the second one. I think this is my favorite book in the series so far and I am now beyond excited to read the last book.

One of my primary complaints in the last books was that I was fully confused by the ending. I wasn't sure what had happened and I didn't understand why Watson was mad at Holmes. This book cleared all of that up and gave me the explanation that I needed from the last book.

My other primary complaint was about the way Watson and Holmes treated each other and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to see them interact in this book. It was a much more enjoyable read than the last. I can't really say more without spoiling it but read my spoiler filled review if you want to hear more. I really appreciated seeing both of their characters following the events of the last book and how they were coping. It was really interesting to see.

The mystery in this one was subtle at first and it was almost like Holmes was just grasping at straws and going a little crazy but once things started to pick up, they picked up quick. Like real real quick. I think about half way through was when I could no longer contain my excitement and I found myself unable to sit still while I was reading because I was just so into the story. I was fully into the mystery. It was dramatic and kept me on the edge of my seat while I was trying to figure out what was about to come.

My one complaint in this book is that it was almost a bit predictable. I found myself being able to predict things just a couple of pages before they happened. Honestly though, after the last book I was just happy to understand what was going on and I didn't mind the predictability at all because I was still so fully immersed in the story. That being said, there were many twists that I didn't correctly predict but the fact that I got any right stood out to me as unusual.

Publisher's Description:

The Case for Jamie by Brittany Cavallaro

The hotly anticipated and explosive third book in the New York Times bestselling Charlotte Holmes series.

It’s been a year since the shocking death of August Moriarty, and Jamie and Charlotte haven’t spoken.

Jamie is going through the motions at Sherringford, trying to finish his senior year without incident, with a nice girlfriend he can’t seem to fall for.

Charlotte is on the run, from Lucien Moriarty and from her own mistakes. No one has seen her since that fateful night on the lawn in Sussex—and Charlotte wants it that way. She knows she isn’t safe to be around. She knows her Watson can’t forgive her.

Holmes and Watson may not be looking to reconcile, but when strange things start happening, it’s clear that someone wants the team back together. Someone who has been quietly observing them both. Making plans. Biding their time.

Someone who wants to see one of them suffer and the other one dead.
