My Review:
First off, I love this book so much! It has been sitting on my shelf for forever and I have just never particularly felt like picking it up. But as a big fan of The Bachelor this was the book version of the show. If the bachelor were the prince of a high powered dystopian country, that is.
Royal love stories are among my favorite things in books and the trope of a member of the royal family falling in love with a low class, high personality, commoner is one of my favorites. My absolute favorite being friends to lovers. This was everything I love in a book. That being said my least favorite trope is a love triangle and this one was no exception.
Let's talk about Aspen because I want to get it over with. He is honestly my least favorite character. I'm not sure that I was meant to hate him as much as I did but he literally dumped her because she had *slightly* more money than he did. He let his pride get in the way and he broke her heart. There was no reason why she should have ever even let him talk to her after that.
Now Maxon, he's a dork and I love him so much. He handles the situation very well and you can tell from that first scene in the garden that he is hopelessly falling for America and yet he gives her the time she needs to think through her feelings and the effect that she has on him! Their friendship is one that I admire because they can always depend on each other. With one tug of the ear and they can tell each other anything.
This book is perfect for people who like sappy romance, royal love stories, and maybe a love triangle. Although I prefer to ignore that part of the story.
